ShorePoint CEO Matt Brown Discusses the Cyber Talent Challenge on Cybersecurity TV

According to a report by Boston Consulting Group, the current cybersecurity talent shortage, if unresolved, is predicted to “account for more than half of all significant cybersecurity incidents worldwide.”

ShorePoint’s Co-Founder and CEO, Matt Brown, addressed this challenge in a recent Cybersecurity TV interview with host Dave Gardy.

“There are still more cybersecurity jobs that are open than there are professionals to fill them, so there’s still a talent gap in the industry,” said Brown. “The cyber threat landscape is constantly changing, and you have to continue to update the skills of your personnel that support the cyber challenge.”

In the interview, Brown referred to a new ShorePoint partnership designed to help close the gap. The company is partnering with James Madison University’s Federal Dukes, an alumni association whose members are actively working throughout the U.S. federal government and Department of Defense sectors to help strengthen career opportunities for JMU students and alumni. In this partnership, ShorePoint helps “ensure the curriculum that the cyber professionals are receiving meet what’s needed in the workforce,” added Brown.

When asked for his advice to federal leaders on finding and harnessing their available cybersecurity talent, Brown said, “Connecting the dots between the actual mission that the agency is executing, and the role that the cyber professional is playing […] is a really important thing, so they feel fulfilled in the job function they’re performing and it’s really attached to something bigger.”
